“When it comes to fundamentals that translate into practical application in competitive situations, I believe Coach Malis is one of the best. His work with guys we have recruited prepared them very well for our level. He has added tremendous value to the players he has coached.”

-Ritchie McKay, Assoc. Head Coach University of Virginia

More About LOBA…

Lute Olson, former Wildcat Men’s Basketball Coach and Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, is intimately involved with this year-round academy. At the academy, coaches will teach basketball skills and team concepts to aspiring basketball players of all skill levels, starting at the age of six (6).

The Lute Olson Basketball Academy – “LOBA” for short – runs four-five sessions throughout the year, each session typically lasting six weeks. Training sessions for beginner and intermediate groups are 90 minutes twice a week (one weekday evening and one weekend day); the advanced group will meet for two hours one weekend afternoon. LOBA is designed to supplement the coaching received through  school, league or club teams. Custom team training is also available.

The typical LOBA annual calendar is: Fall Session:  September-October;  Winter Session: November-December; Spring Sessions: March-May; End of Summer Session: July-August.

LOBA has always worked keep fees extremely low – and provide financial assistance to a limited number of financially qualified participants – so that this unique program can reach as many kids as possible.

Lute-center-court-forwebThe director of LOBA is Gary Malis. Coach Malis has been a head coach at the high school varsity and elite national AAU level, directed and coached basketball camps and clinics all over the Southwest, and has been hired to do group skill training for high school varsity programs as well as private training for players that have secured full college scholarships from Junior College to D-1. Coach Malis will be joined by a staff of experienced Southern Arizona high school coaches and former D-1 college players.
