ABOUT LUTE

Coach Lute Olson was one of the greatest basketball coaches in the history of the game. He was the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Arizona from 1983 until 2008, during which time his teams amassed the best winning record percentage in the nation. He led the Wildcats to four Final Fours and the 1997 National Championship. He won several Coach of the Year awards and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
“Lute Olson was one of the finest teachers and strategists that the sport of basketball has produced…he has the love and respect of all who knew him well and the respect of all those who understand the great sport of basketball.” -John Wooden
Since his arrival in the Old Pueblo, Coach O was active and visible in supporting a number of charitable causes that made Tucson a better place. He was an early, and important, supporter of Sporting Chance Center, and helped make the Sporting Chance Center a reality. His willingness to create and support LOBA was just one more example of Coach O’s commitment to the youth of our community.
